Biosketches:

Dr. Hiroo Suami, PhD

Dr. Suami (MD, PhD) was trained in Japan as a reconstructive microsurgeon. He joined the Japan Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1999 and started lymphatic research in 2001 when he worked in the Reconstructive Microsurgery Research Unit at the University of Melbourne, Australia. There, he developed a novel radiographic technique for visualising the lymphatic system in a cadaver model. For his technical approaches he was awarded the Basic Science Award from the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation in the USA in 2003 and in 2005. In 2009 Dr. Suami joined the Department of Plastic Surgery at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas as Assistant Professor and director of the microsurgery research centre. Here he developed a large animal model for lymphoedema research and assisted with indocyanine green fluorescence lymphography in over 250 surgical lymphoedema cases. Dr. Suami was recruited to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University in 2015 and currently works with the Australian Lymphatic Education, Research and Treatment (ALERT).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chieh-Han John Tzou

Dr. Chieh-Han Tzou completed his medical education and plastic surgery residency at the Medical University of Vienna and a one-and-a-half-year microvascular fellowship at the Chang Gung Memorial University Hospital in Taiwan. Currently, as an Associate Professor for Plastic Surgery, he is the Director of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Facial Surgery and Reconstructive Lymphsurgery. He is also the program coordinator of the International Fellowship Program of the Department of Surgery. The main focus of his research is facial palsy, nerve reconstruction, microsurgical reconstruction and reconstructive lymphsurgery.

PD Dr. Stefan Meng

After his graduation in 2002 at the University of Vienna Stefan Meng worked as a scientific fellow at the Department of Anatomy of the Medical University of Vienna. In 2005 he started residency in radiology at the KFJ Hospital in Vienna and finished as medical specialist in radiology in 2010. Since 2014 he runs a Private Practice focusing on ultrasound imaging. Dr. Meng’s scientific interests are on neuromuscular and head/neck imaging, with a special focus on nerve ultrasound and ultrasound of the lymphatic system. Since he also is an experienced and engaged teacher (dissecting classes, pre- and postgraduate ultrasound courses etc.) he qualified for Habilitation in Anatomy and was entitled as Privat Dozent (PD) in 2016. Dr. Meng is an active member in the Austrian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (www.oegum.at).

Univ. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang J Weninger

Dr. Weninger studied Medicine at the University of Vienna, graduating 1995 as MD. 2000 he spent a year with Dr TJ Mohun at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research in London. 2002 he received his Habilitation and 2003 his certificate as medical specialist for Anatomy. Since 2016 he is head of the Division of Anatomy of the Medical University of Vienna. Dr. Weninger focuses on clinically applied anatomy, morphological phenotyping of biomedical model organisms and on developing and exploring novel imaging methods http://www.wolfgangweninger.at/

Dr. Ulrike M Hamscha

Dr. Hamscha studied medicine at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria. She graduated in 2012 and did her training as general physician in Austria and Germany. In 2016 she started her specialist's training for anatomy at the Division of Anatomy of the Medical University of Vienna. Dr. Hamscha's research focuses on clinically applied anatomy and new approaches for conventional clinical imaging techniques with emphasis on the neuromuscular and lymphatic system and the head/neck region.
